Sebi wants to promote more debt ETFs

MUMBAI - The Securities Exchange Board of India is looking at implementing a framework to encourage more exchange-traded funds in debt securities to increase retail investors’ interest in the market, said its wholetime member Ananta Barua at the fifth National Summit and Awards organised by industry body Assocham.

The capital regulator wants to replicate the story as seen in the equity segment, where the ETFs and index funds have deepened retail investors’ participation in the markets.

State Bank of India obtained the best issuer award in the private placement category while AK Capital received the title of investment banker of the year. Tauras, Vistra Trustee and Indigrid and Indiabonds.com were other recipients of awards across categories.


SEBI is also looking at implementing other measures as announced in the annual budget by Finance.
