Satyam gains over three pc on BSE

Even as the Indian stock market sank 834 points, its third biggest fall in absolute terms, IT services provider Satyam Computer Services today managed to surge over three per cent in today's volatile trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

MUMBAI: Even as the Indian stock market sank 834 points, its third biggest fall in absolute terms, IT services provider Satyam Computer Services today managed to surge over three per cent in today's volatile trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The shares of Satyam Computer rose 3.38 per cent to Rs 423.85 and witnessed an intra-day high of Rs 436.90. Over 7.8 lakh shares changed hands on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Further, the IT stocks - Infosys Technologies, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services gained less than one per cent during the day's trading.

Infosys ended the day with a gain of 0.48 per cent at Rs 1558.75 while Wipro closed at Rs 423.50, up 0.25 per cent. TCS rose about 0.36 per cent to Rs 903.20.

Meanwhile, scrips of biotechnology firm Biocon and global provider of optical fibres Sterlite Technologies were among the losers despite positive announcements today.

The scrip of Biocon slipped 1.12 per cent despite the news of it acquiring a majority stake in a German pharma company. The biotech major had announced it would acquire 70 per cent in AxiCorp GmbH for 30 million Euros (over Rs 173 crore).

Sterlite Technologies also plunged 8.13 per cent, settling at Rs 187.50.

Earlier during the day, the company had announced that it had bagged a contract worth 17.5 million dollars from an Ethiopian power firm.
