MUMBAI: Shares of leading software exporter Satyam Computer Services soared more than five per cent today, while the scrip of Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) declined on the Bombay Stock Exchange even as it recorded a 17 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 2,815 crore for FY08.
Satyam Computer shot up 5.11 per cent to close at Rs 428.05 after reaching an intra-day high of Rs 432.20. More than seven lakh shares of the firm changed hands during the day's trade.
Further, Wipro, Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services ended in the positive territory. While Wipro gained about 5 per cent, the shares of TCS and Infosys jumped 4.13 per cent and 2.68 per cent, respectively.
The 18-share IT index too rose 120.56 points or 3.31 per cent to 3,764.91 points.
Another major gainer was Bharat Electronics the scrip of which increased 2.94 per cent to Rs 1,132.20. During the day, the firm announced that it has posted a turnover of Rs 4,114 crore (provisional) for the financial year 2007-08 as against previous year's turnover of Rs 3,952 crore, registering a rise of 4.09 per cent.
Vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra declined over three per cent to close at Rs 643.75 after touching an intra-day high of Rs 681. In addition, shares of Anil Ambani-led Reliance Energy fell 3.32 per cent to Rs 1189.45. It had reached an intra-day high of Rs 1250.
