Q1 earnings preview: Airtel, Idea may report losses on Jio’s relentless pricing aggression
Reliance Jio Infocomm is once again poised to far outshine older rivals Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular in the first quarter ended June, by likely reporting a near Rs 530-crore net profit.

By comparison, Airtel is likely to post a near Rs 298-crore consolidated net loss — its first in nearly 15 years — while Idea’s losses are slated to mount significantly on-year to Rs 1,652 crore, according to an ET Poll of eight and seven analysts, respectively.

Analysts expect Airtel and Idea to be hit by Jio’s relentless pricing aggression on both the prepaid and postpaid platforms, the recent fall of the rupee against the US dollar and the full-quarter impact of the cut in international termination rates. Airtel reports Q1 results on July 26, Jio on July 27 and Idea on July 30.
