New Delhi: PwC has roped in former KPMG partner Gaganpreet Puri to head its anti-fraud services unit.

Puri has been an advisor to the central vigilance commission in drafting a national anti-corruption policy and has worked in over 20 countries advising large corporates and private equity funds on investigating fraud and providing expert testimony in disputes.

He was also appointed to investigate allegations of fund misappropriation at the commonwealth games held in Delhi in 2010 and investigated similar allegations at Tata group’s telecom tower joint venture with SREI infrastructure a few years ago.

A PwC spokesperson confirmed the development.

Puri was till recently managing director for Singapore at NYSE-listed Navigant consulting. He will be relocating to Delhi to take up the new assignment.

PwC has been looking to beef up its advisory services business as it combats a two-year ban imposed on it by market regulator Sebi that will curtail its ability to provide audit services to listed companies.

The ban was handed to it for its alleged failure to detect a fraud at the now defunct Satyam computer services a decade ago. Pwc has contested the ruling.

Puri will replace Dinesh Anand, the current head of PwC’s anti-fraud services division. Anand is expected to move into a new role in management consulting next month.
