The NSE International Exchange (NSEIX) on Monday began operating under an extended trading schedule of 23 hours and 30 minutes, completing its first day under the new framework. The move extends market access for international investors and trading participants, with the exchange aiming to offer a near-continuous trading window across global time zones.

Under the revised schedule, market operations begin at 3.15 AM IST and continue until 2.45 AM IST the following day. The extended timings are designed to provide participants with access to markets during Asian, European and American trading hours, while strengthening GIFT City's role as an international financial centre connecting India with global capital markets.

The near round-the-clock trading arrangement is intended to help market participants respond to developments in international markets and manage their exposure across different time zones. With the new schedule, NSEIX aims to provide a trading window covering nearly 24 hours a day, five days a week.

The exchange said its technology infrastructure supports the extended operating hours, with system maintenance and updates carried out within three minutes between trading sessions. Maintenance at the end of the trading day takes less than 15 minutes.

V. Balasubramaniam, managing director and chief executive officer of NSEIX, said the extension to 23.5-hour trading was an important step towards developing a globally accessible marketplace from GIFT City. He said the expanded trading window would allow participants to access markets across time zones and improve GIFT City's connectivity with international financial markets.

The new trading schedule is backed by technology and operational arrangements designed to support longer market hours. NSEIX said it would continue working on expanding international market access and developing market infrastructure to meet the changing requirements of global participants.

The extended timings also mark a change in the exchange's operating framework, allowing trading participants to access the market for most of the day across major international trading sessions.

NSE International Exchange (NSEIX) is as a multi-asset international exchange. It is recognised by the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). The exchange offers a range of products, including Indian single-stock derivatives, index derivatives, currency derivatives, depository receipts and global stocks.
