NPCI appoints Praveena Rai as COO, Arif Khan CDO

As COO, Rai will be in-charge of formulating and deploying the marketing, business development, product management and operations strategy.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has appointed Praveena Rai as its chief operating officer (COO) and Arif Khan as chief digital officer (CDO) with effect from February 20 and February 18, respectively.

As COO, Rai will be in-charge of formulating and deploying the marketing, business development, product management and operations strategy. She will drive product penetration, reach and visibility of NPCI’s offerings through suitable partnerships.

Prior to joining NPCI, she was leading the cash management portfolio at Kotak Mahindra Bank.


Khan will be leading strategic planning for digital transformation. He will be responsible for driving innovation, analytics and technology and was earlier associated with RazorPay as the chief innovation officer.

NPCI was set up in 2009 as the central infrastructure for various retail payment systems in India and was envisaged by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as the payment utility in the country.
