MUMBAI: Japanese brokerage and investment banking firm Nomura Holdings is opening a new office in San Francisco to promote financial innovation and new business development.

This new office will he headed by Neeraj Hora, former head of global finance at Nomura for Asia excluding Japan.

Nomura plans to invest $100 million in supporting financial start-ups through this new office.

"The new office will explore next-generation businesses and cutting-edge technologies. Nomura will leverage these technologies to further enhance its existing businesses and transform the way it operates. The firm will also pursue co-investment and business collaboration opportunities across industries with clients in Japan, Asia, and around the world," the Japanese brokerage said.

Nomura had established a financial innovation office in Tokyo in December 2015 to support the firm's innovation in financial services.
