MUMBAI: Shares of Maruti Suzuki gained momentum after ET Now reported that the company has increased production at its Manesar plant to 600 cars per day, citing sources.

The company has also started hiring permanent workers from Sunday and plans to ramp up output as manpower rises.

According to sources, the company is producing 450 units of Swift DZire and 150 units of A-Star cars on a daily basis.

The stock moved higher a day after the monthly sales data showed a 35 percent fall in domestic car sales due to a month-long lockout at its Manesar plant. The company sold 50,129 units in August compared to 77,086 units in the same month last year.

At 01:20 p.m., the stock was at Rs 1,156, up 1.53 per cent on the BSE. It touched a high of Rs 1,160 and a low of Rs 1,128 in trade so far.
