Market Now: Smallcaps outperform Sensex; GVK Power among top gainers

NEW DELHI: The BSE Smallcap index was outperforming benchmark Sensex in afternoon trade on Tuesday.

Around 12:35 pm (IST), the BSE Smallcap index was 0.31 per cent up at 18,148, while the BSE Sensex was 0.18 per cent up at 35,273. The NSE Nifty50 was 0.16 per cent up at 10,733.

Shares of Deccan Gold Mines (up 13.82 per cent), Himadri Speciality Chemical (up 12.70 per cent), Aksh Optifibre (up 9.94 per cent), Arcotech (up 8.47 per cent) and GVK Power & Infrastructure (up 6.05 per cent) were the top gainers in the smallcap index.


On the other hand, PC Jeweller (down 11.30 per cent), Sunil Hitech Engineers (down 10.77 per cent), Tata Coffee (down 6.47 per cent), Madhucon Projects (down 6.31 per cent), Trident (down 5.18 per cent), Phillips Carbon Black (down 5 per cent) and Ricoh India (down 5 per cent) were the top losers among the smallcap stocks around the same time.

Gains in select bank, financial, FMCG and auto counters were keeping the benchmark indices up.

In the Sensex index, 15 stocks were trading with gains, while 15 were suffering losses.

ICICI Bank zoomed over 8 per cent on BSE, leading the pack of Sensex gainers.

Mahindra & Mahindra and IndusInd Bank were the top losers in the Sensex index.
