Market Now: Smallcaps in line with Sensex; SRF, MIRC Electronics top losers

Equity benchmarks were in the negative territory on unabated foreign fund outflows and surging global crude oil prices.

NEW DELHI: In line with benchmark Sensex, smallcaps were also under pressure during Friday's trade.

The BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.21 per cent down at 17,575, while the benchmark Sensex was 0.29 per cent down at 35,048 around 10:55 am (IST). The Nifty50 index was 0.22 per cent down at 10,659.

SRF (down 8.79 per cent) was the top loser in the smallcap index, followed by MIRC Electronics (down 7.47 per cent), Voltas (down 6.91 per cent) and Jyothy Laboratories (down 6.89 per cent).


On the other hand, shares of Ugar Sugar Works (up 14.19 per cent), Avadh Sugar & Energy (up 13.19 per cent), Uttam Sugar Mills (up 13.02 per cent), Dhampur Sugar Mills (up 11.86 per cent) and Sathavahana Ispat (up 10.42 per cent) surged over 10 per cent.

Equity benchmarks were in the negative territory on unabated foreign fund outflows and surging global crude oil prices.

The rupee depreciating against the US dollar also affected momentum.

Overall, 1,034 stocks were advancing in trade, while 1,045 were declining on BSE.

Bajaj Auto, Hindustan Unilever and YES Bank were the top Sensex gainers.

Bharti Airtel, Wipro and ICICI Bank were the top losers in the Sensex index.
