Market Now: Sensex, Nifty trade up; these are the top gainers

NEW DELHI: Healthy buying in metal, bank, capital goods and IT amid a positive global trend were keeping the domestic equity benchmarks in the positive terrain.

However, selling in HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors and select oil stocks cooled off markets a bit.

The Nifty50 index was 23 points up at 10,402, while the BSE Sensex was 84 points up at 33,872 around 10:40 am (IST).


Shares of Balrampur Chini Mills, Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar, Praj Industries, Tata Steel, PC Jeweller, Future Lifestyle Fashions, Trident, Mphasis, Hindalco Industries and Axis Bank were the top gainers on BSE, rising to 7 per cent.

On the other hand, Vakrangee, Jaiprakash Associates, Mahanagar Gas, Den Networks and Firstsource Solutions were the top losers on BSE, declining up to 5 per cent.

On the BSE, 1,141 stocks were advancing, while 1,074 were declining in trade. 97 stocks were appearing unchanged.

Axis Bank, Adani Ports, Tata Steel and ICICI Bank were leading the pack of gainers in the Sensex index.
