Market Now: S&P BSE SmallCap index hits an all-time high
NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE SmallCap index hit an all-time high of 16,395 in Thursday's trade as domestic equity markets remained upbeat, backed by firm Asian cues.

Shares of Morepen Laboratories (up 19.34 per cent), 63 Moons Technologies (up 16.52 per cent), Punj Lloyd (up 15.45 per cent), Rolta India (up 13.35 per cent), Shoppers Stop (up 10.87 per cent), Himachal Futuristic Communications (up 9.96 per cent) and Jai Corp (up 9.40 per cent) registered robust gains in the index.

However, Visagar Polytex (down 5.79 per cent), PNB Gilts (down 5.42 per cent), Gallantt Ispat (down 5 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent) and Videocon Industries (down 3.94 per cent) cracked up to 5 per cent.

The small-cap index was 120 points up at 16,375 around 11.15 am (IST).

The BSE benchmark Sensex and Nifty remained in the positive territory as firm Asian cues spurred buying in the domestic equity markets.

The equity markets' barometer Sensex gained over 150 points today.

Realty, auto, FMCG and bank were the leading sectoral gainers.

However, the gains narrowed a bit due to selling in select IT and metal stocks.

Nifty Metal index turned volatile as JSW Steel, Coal India and Tata Steel slipped up to 1 per cent.

Benchmark Nifty50 index was 18 points up at 9,933, while the 30-share Sensex was 51 points up at 31,712 around 11.15 am (IST).
