Market Now: PSU bank stocks rise; Andhra Bank up 5%

NEW DELHI: PSU Bank stocks were trading up in Tuesday's trade, keeping the Nifty PSU Bank index in the positive zone.

The Nifty PSU Bank index was trading 1.7 per cent up at 3,031 around 11:55 am (IST), with shares of Andhra Bank (up 5.31 per cent) and Syndicate Bank (up 4.66 per cent) as the top gainers.

Punjab National Bank (up 2.79 per cent), Allahabad Bank (up 2.59 per cent), Bank of Baroda (up 2.43 per cent), Bank of India (up 2.37 per cent), Oriental Bank of Commerce (up 2.20 per cent) and Union Bank of India (up 2.01 per cent) gained over 2 per cent.

Nearly 80 stocks, including Bharti Airtel, Delta Corp, Electrosteel Steels and Ganges Securities hit fresh 52-week highs on NSE in Tuesday's trade.

On the contrary, Alps Industries, Hindustan Media Ventures, Dish TV India, Khaitan Electricals and TV Vision were among those 14 stocks that hit fresh 52-week lows on NSE in Tuesday's trade so far.

On the NSE, 1052 stocks were advancing, compared with 569 stocks declining and 352 stocks remaining unchanged.
