Market Now: JSW Steel, Tata Steel lift Nifty Metal index into green zone

NEW DELHI: Metal stocks such as MOIL (up 3.32 per cent), Vedanta (up 1.63 per cent), JSW Steel (up 1.41 per cent), Hindustan Zinc (up 1.25 per cent), Hindalco Industries (up 0.96 per cent) and Tata Steel (up 0.87 per cent) were gaining in Tuesday's trade, helping the Nifty Metal index break five-session losing-run.

Jindal Steel & Power (up 0.82 per cent), NMDC (up 0.54 per cent), Orissa Minerals Development Company (up 0.17 per cent), Ratnamani Metals & Tubes (up 0.13 per cent) and National Aluminium Company (up 0.13 per cent) were also gaining in trade.

However, APL Apollo Tubes (down 2.35 per cent), Coal India (down 0.84 per cent) and Steel Authority of India ( Sail) (down 0.18 per cent) were losing in trade.

The Nifty Metal index was trading 0.88 per cent up at 3,481 around 11.15 am (IST). Benchmarks Nifty50 and Sensex, both were 0.45 per cent down at 9,828 and 31,485, respectively, around the same time.

Besides metal, realty stocks were also gaining. Phoenix Mills was the top gainer realty stock, with gains of over 3 per cent. Indiabulls Real Estate, Prestige Estates Projects and Delta Corp gaines up to 2 per cent.

Pharma stocks, however, gave up the gains of early session. Dr Reddy's cracked over 3 per cent. Cadila, Cipla and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals declined up to 1 per cent.

On the NSE, 844 stocks were advancing, compared with 755 stocks declining and 366 stocks remaining unchanged.

On BSE, 1,162 stocks were advancing whereas 1,004 stocks were lagging and 122 stocks were appearing unchanged.
