Market Now: BSE Smallcap index trails benchmark Sensex

NEW DELHI: BSE Smallcap index was trailing benchmark Sensex in Wednesday's trade.

At 11 hours, the BSE Smallcap index was 0.55 per cent down at 19,496, while the BSE Sensex was 0.38 per cent up at 34,901. The NSE Nifty50 was 0.28 per cent up at 10,730.

Shares of Prakash Industries (down 6.51 per cent), EIH (down 6.43 per cent), Jay Bharat Maruti (down 6.31 per cent), Panama Petrochem (down 5.94 per cent) and Aban Offshore (down 5.34 per cent) plunged over 5 per cent in the smallcap index.


However, shares of TV Today Network (up 9.85 per cent), Sterling Tools (up 9.73 per cent), Borosil Glass Works (up 6.67 per cent), Trigyn Technologies (up 5.60 per cent) and Shemaroo Entertainment (up 5.47 per cent) surged over 5 per cent in the smallcap space.

IT, bank and pharma stocks were leading the equity markets.

Infosys, Axis Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Adani Ports and ICICI Bank were among the top gainers in the Sensex index.

Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, Wipro and Asian Paints were among the losers in the Sensex kitty of stocks.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 pack, 28 were trading in the green, while 22 were in the red.
