Market Now: BSE Power index down; Torrent Power tanks 5%

NEW DELHI: The BSE Power index was trading 2.65 per cent down at 2,185 around 1 pm (IST) on Tuesday with shares of Torrent Power (down 5.16 per cent) as the top loser.

Shares of GMR Infrastructure (down 4.95 per cent), Suzlon Energy (down 4.74 per cent), Reliance Infrastructure (down 3.82 per cent), Reliance Power (down 3.53 per cent), JSW Energy (down 3.30 per cent), ABB India (down 3.29 per cent), Tata Power Company (down 3.24 per cent), KEC International (down 3.22 per cent), Adani Power (down 3.20 per cent), PTC India (down 3.13 per cent) and Siemens (down 2.85 per cent) were also among the losers in the index.

Domestic equity markets remained down on selling across sectors, triggered by global meltdown in share markets. However, bourses pared losses a bit in the afternoon session.


Benchmark BSE Sensex was 858 points down at 33,899, while the NSE Nifty50 index was 255 points down at 10,412 around 1 pm.

Tata Motors, Axis Bank, HCL Tech and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the top losers in the Nifty pack of stocks.
