Market Now: BSE Midcap hits fresh high; Page Industries top gainer

NEW DELHI: Extending its rally for a third consecutive session, the BSE Midcap index hit all-time high of 15,481.65 in Tuesday's trade with shares of Page Industries (up 4.07 per cent), Container Corporation of India (up 3.56 per cent) and Mangalore Refinery And Petrochemicals (up 3.54 per cent) surging up to 4 per cent.

Stocks such as Indiabulls Housing Finance (up 2.37 per cent), UPL (up 2.12 per cent), Petronet LNG (up 2.08 per cent), Indian Hotels Company (up 2.05 per cent) and Exide Industries (up 2.03 per cent) also registered significant gains.

However, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (down 3.47 per cent), Union Bank of India (down 2.63 per cent) and Bank of India (down 2.56 per cent) cracked over 2 per cent in the index.

The S&P BSE Midcap index was trading 54 points higher at 15,443 around 1.15 pm (IST).

Benchmark Nifty50 index was trading almost flat at 10,079, merely 2 points up, while the 30-share Sensex was 9 points down at 32,510 around the same time.

Earlier, the Nifty spurted 24 points to reach 10,101 and the Sensex rallied over 100 points today, fuelled by strong corporate earnings and positive global developments.

In the Nifty chart, Tech Mahindra (up 4.63) stayed at the top in trade so far after it reported a profit of Rs 798.6 crore for the quarter ended June, up 35.8 per cent from Rs 588 crore in the sequential quarter.

Bank of Baroda (down 1.78 per cent) was at the bottom in the Nifty index.

In the Nifty50 pack, 34 stocks were trading in green, while 17 stocks were in red.

On BSE, 1,050 stocks were advancing whereas 1,451 stocks were lagging.
