Market Now: Auto stocks slide; Motherson Sumi cracks 4%

NEW DELHI: Most of the auto stocks including Motherson Sumi Systems (down 4.32 per cent), Apollo Tyres (down 3.79 per cent), Eicher Motors (down 2.98 per cent) and Ashok Leyland (down 2.33 per cent) were trading down in afternoon trade on Friday.

The Nifty Auto index was trading 1.57 per cent down at 11,129 around 01:45 pm (IST) with shares of Bosch (up 0.38 per cent) as the solitary gainer.

Tata Motors (down 1.76 per cent), Tata Motors (DVR) (down 1.70 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India (down 1.61 per cent), MRF (down 1.39 per cent), Bharat Forge (down 1.35 per cent), Bajaj Auto (down 1.05 per cent), Exide Industries (down 0.89 per cent) and TVS Motor Company (down 0.86 per cent) declined up to 1.76 per cent in the Nifty Auto index.


Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was 72 points down at 10,474, while the BSE Sensex was 230 points down at 34,067 around 1:45 pm.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 13 were trading in the green, while 37 were in the red.

Shares of Punjab National Bank, Corporation Bank, Dena Bank, Electrosteel Steels and Gitanjali Gems hit fresh 52-week lows on NSE during Friday's trade.
