Market Mow: BSE Midcap index rises; Jindal Steel up 4%

Tata Chemicals (up 2.94 per cent), United Breweries (up 2.91 per cent), Rajesh Exports (up 2.82 per cent) witnessed decent gains in the midcap index.

NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Midcap index was trading 0.78 per cent up at 15,814 around 10:40 am (IST), backed by gains in Jindal Steel & Power (up 3.79 per cent), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (up 3.42 per cent), Nalco(up 3.21 per cent) and Muthoot Finance (up 3.20 per cent).

The Nifty50 index was 0.69 per cent up at 9,956, while the 30-share Sensex was 0.58 per cent up at 31,775 around the same time.

Tata Chemicals (up 2.94 per cent), United Breweries (up 2.91 per cent), Rajesh Exports (up 2.82 per cent), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (up 2.78 per cent), Adani Power (up 2.14 per cent) and Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company (up 2 per cent) also witnessed decent gains in the midcap index.

However, Larsen & Toubro Infotech (down 1.04 per cent), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (down 0.84 per cent), Bajaj Holdings & Investment (down 0.78 per cent), Oracle Financial Services Software (down 0.71 per cent) and Emami (down 0.68 per cent) were losing in trade.

Buying in metal, bank, realty and auto stocks kept markets aloft.

On the BSE, 1,681 stocks were advancing whereas 517 stocks were lagging and 83 stocks were appearing unchanged.
