Malar Hospitals, Geometric, UB Holding down on Q3 results

MUMBAI: Malar Hospitals, a Fortis group company, recorded 80% growth in revenues at Rs 8.15 crore for the quarter ended Dec 31, 2008. Operating profit for the quarter stood at Rs 1.05 crore while net profit was Rs 20 lakhs. Malar shares were trading 4.9% higher at Rs 14.16 on Tuesday.

Engineering service provider, Geometric has reported over 31 per cent rise in revenues at Rs 163 crore for the quarter ended Dec 31, 2008. Operating profit of the company more than tripled to Rs 24 crore compared to Rs 7.5 crore in the third quarter of 2008. The company reported a decline in net profit from Rs 4.71 crore to Rs 1.8 crore sequentially on account of foreign exchange losses of Rs 18.9 crore, including a provision on Rs 2.19 crore towards possible futures currency losses. Geometric shares were trading 0.7 per cent lower at Rs19.85 twenty minutes into market.

United Breweries Holdings has posted a net profit after tax of Rs 6.93 crore for the quarter ended Dec 31, 2008 compared to Rs 4.15 crore for corresponding period last fiscal. Total income has decreased from Rs 102.9 crore for the current quarter to Rs 91.75 crore for the same quarter last year. United Breweries shares were 3.1 per cent lower at Rs 96.20.
