Lupin trades higher on getting USFDA nod for pain relief tablets

The tablets are generic versions of Allergan Sales’ Norco tablets in the same strengths and the product will be launched shortly.

NEW DELHI: Shares of Lupin were trading higher in early trade on Tuesday after the company informed the bourses that it had received final approval from the US health regulator USFDA for its Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen tablets used for pain relief.

The tablets are generic versions of Allergan Sales’ Norco tablets in the same strengths and the product will be launched shortly. As per IMS MAT September 2016 data, Lupin said the tablets had US sales of $849.5 million.

Lupin was trading 0.38 per cent up at Rs 1,542 in early trade on BSE. The scrip opened the day at Rs 1,536 and had touched a high and low of Rs 1,547 and Rs 1,534, respectively, in trade so far. Benchmark BSE Healthcare index was 0.64 per cent higher at 15,776.


In a BSE filing, the drug major said, “Lupin Somerset has received final approval to market its Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen tablets USP, in the strengths of 5 mg/325 mg, 7.5 mg/325 mg and 10 mg/325 mg from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA).”

For the quarter ended September 30, 2016, the company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 662.19 crore, down 24.92 per cent, against Rs 881.95 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Consolidated net sales of the company slipped 3.01 per cent to Rs 4,211 crore for the quarter under review against Rs 4,341 crore in the same quarter last financial year. Total expenditure of Lupin stood increased marginally to Rs 3,262 crore from Rs 3,159 crore during the same quarters.
