Lion's share of LIC equity investment is in ITC

The Life Insurance Corporation of India's (LIC) largest equity investment is in tobacco major ITC. As on 20 May, the value of LIC's holding in ITC was around Rs 38,000 crore, almost 10% of the life insurer's total equity holding and 14.41% of ITC's equity value.

According to the World Health Organisation, India is home to 12% of the world's smokers. According to a report by the International Tobacco Control Project, tobacco consumption will account for more than 1.5 million Indian deaths a year.
