IT stocks end in green; HCL, Infy leads rally

Shares of Information Technology firms today surged as much as nine per cent as positive buying sentiments emerged for the sector.

MUMBAI: Shares of Information Technology firms on Wednesday surged as much as nine per cent as positive buying sentiments emerged for the sector.

Led by HCL Technologies, which jumped nearly 9 per cent, the BSE IT index ended with a gain of 5.02 per cent at 2,255.42 points.

Shares of the HCL rose 8.7 per cent to Rs 118.05. During the trade it had touched a high of Rs 122.55, up 12.84 per cent from previous close.

IT bellwether Infosys Technologies Ltd surged over to 6 per cent to settle at Rs 1,304.85 a day after it announced a 33 per cent growth in its third quarter net profit at Rs 1,641 crore, beating street expectations.

Besides, Tata Constancy Services (TCS) continued its gaining streak and ended the day at Rs 538.45, up 2.99 per cent, a day after the IT major was hired by the World Bank to take up the projects which was earlier handled by the tainted Satyam Computer Services.

Also Wipro ended in green with a gain of 1.18 per cent at Rs 243.95 on the BSE.

A day after plunging nearly 18 per cent, Rolta settled with a gain of 1.55 per cent at Rs 88.50 on the bourses. A total of 1.5 crore shares changed the hands on the bourse.

Other gainers in the 13 scrip IT sector of BSE were Aptech (6.73 per cent), NIIT Technologies (3.67 per cent), Mphasis (2.07 per cent) and Moser Baer (1.59 per cent).

However, Patni Computer defied trend and settled marginally down at Rs 118 on the BSE.
