Stock market to remain shut today on account of Maha Shivratri
Equity markets BSE and NSE will be closed on Friday for Maha Shivratri. NCDEX and MCX will also be closed. March will have three trading holidays, and in 2024, there will be 14 trading holidays. Sensex and Nifty reached lifetime highs.

In March, equity markets will be closed for trading on three occasions — the other two being March 25, Monday, on account of Holi and March 29, Friday, on account of Good Friday. NCDEX will remain closed on both days while MCX will be closed in both sessions on Good Friday but resume trading in the evening session on March 25 (Holi).
In 2024, exchanges have announced 14 trading holidays. Equity markets will remain closed on two occasions in April, once each in May, June, July, August, October and December and twice in November.
November 1, Friday, will be a holiday to celebrate Diwali (Laxmi Pujan). Muhurat Trading will be conducted by the exchanges on the day and the timings will be notified later.
Any change in the holiday calendar will be announced through a separate circular in advance.
After hitting back-to-back lifetime highs in previous sessions, Indian headline indices were once again trading in the green. While S&P BSE Sensex was trading at 74,131.21 around 2:10 pm, gaining 45.22 points or 0.06%, the broader Nifty was trading at 22,501.45, higher by 27.40 points or 0.12% around this time. Earlier in the day, Sensex recorded a lifetime high of 74,245.17 while Nifty's all-time high was 22,525.65.
The Nifty breadth was skewed in favor of bulls with 31 stocks trading in the green, 18 in the red and one stock remaining unchanged. The top gainers were Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, Tata Consumer Products, JSW Steel and Hindalco Industries while the top losers were Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and LTIMindtree.
