IL&FS set to get back 'genuine' NHAI dues

While genuine dues of NHAI are seen at Rs 4,000 crore, IL&FS pegs them at Rs 16,000 crore.

NHAI to settle IL&FS dues soon?
There is a ray of hope for IL&FS, which is reeling under tight liquidity conditions. Genuine dues owed by state-owned bodies such as NHAI will be paid to the embattled financial services firm, say government sources.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and IL&FS are said to fast-track the settlement talks.

While genuine dues of NHAI are seen at Rs 4,000 crore, IL&FS pegs them at Rs 16,000 crore.

Large IL&FS shareholders, including LIC, may also be part of the settlement process, the sources added.

It's understood that the government is set to probe what really went wrong at the NBFC and determine whether IL&FS is a real business failure or it suffered because of some wrongdoing.

The stock closed 4.5 per cent up on the BSE today.
