Bond yield surging over 100 basis points over the last six months was a pressure point. But that was then. Of late, it has seen a sharp slide after the government's lower borrowing plan for the next financial year.

Gross borrowing through government securities is pegged at Rs 2.88 lakh crore in the first half of FY19 as against Rs 3.72 lakh crore a year earlier. The government’s total borrowing is projected at Rs 6.05 lakh crore for FY19, compared with Rs 5.99 lakh crore in FY18.

The government usually completes 60 per cent of the targeted borrowing in the first six months.
