Initial gains by the domestic equity market on the GST Council finalising rates for most goods were mostly offset by profit booking in the second half of trade on Friday.

As a result, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed 30 points up at 30,464, while NSE's Nifty index settled flat at 9,427.

Shares of State Bank of India advanced nearly 2 per cent after the lender more than doubled March quarter net profit to Rs 2,814 crore.

FMCG companies hogged limelight as GST tax rate was lowered on common use products such as hair oil, soaps and toothpaste.

Stock futures of Cummins India saw the biggest jump in open interest. It was followed by Muthoot Finance, Ujjivan, Motherson Sumi and Sintex.

Nifty index opened positive but failed to hold the 9,500 zone and during the day it witnessed a decline of around 100 points from highs. However, it recovered from lower levels and finally closed on a flat note on profit booking.
