Investing rarely feels predictable when the rules of the game are ever evolving. An asset class that worked well in the last cycle may struggle in the next. For investors, that leaves a deceptively simple question: where should the money go next?

The ET Alpha Wealth Summit 2.0 set to be held on Thursday, October 8 in Mumbai, brings together some of India’s leading investors, wealth managers and family-office professionals to look at that question from different angles.

The summit begins with Kshitij Anand (Editor, ET Markets) setting the macro context with the opening keynote The Macro Manifesto.

Nilesh Shah (MD, Kotak Mahindra AMC) will then widen the lens to Global Capital Flows.

Where money is moving

Global money rarely moves without consequences. Shifts in interest rates, currencies, growth and geopolitics can influence everything from equity valuations to bonds and emerging markets.

But knowing where capital is moving is different from knowing where to deploy it. A panel discussion featuring Ashish Shanker, MD, Motilal Oswal Wealth; Pranob Gupta, MD, Lighthouse Canton; Rahul Jain, President, Nuvama Wealth; Ashish Khandelia, Founder, Certus Capital; and Sandeep Das, MD, Centrum Wealth, will explore how these shifts are shaping portfolios, with private credit, venture debt, co-investments and alternatives in focus.

Prashant Jain, Founder, 3P Investment Managers, will bring a 30-year investor’s perspective to the next market cycle. At a time when investors are constantly chasing the next big theme, that long-term lens may be just as valuable as spotting what is new.

And how can commodities be left behind? Praveena Rai of MCX will deliver a masterclass on why the next investment cycle could be driven by commodities in an investor's portfolio

Beyond stocks and bonds

For many investors, diversification once largely meant finding the right balance between equities and fixed income. That definition is getting wider.

Niche alternatives and structural investment themes are becoming a bigger part of the wealth conversation.

Harendra Kumar, MD, Elara Capital; B Gopkumar, MD, Axis MF; and Hiren Ved, CIO, Alchemy Capital, will explore where unconventional sources of alphas could emerge with a panel discussion titled “Unconventional Alpha: Multi-Gen Wealth Creation in Niche Alternative Asset Classes.”

Structured debt adds another layer to the mix. Vikas Satija, MD, Shriram Wealth; Aakash Desai, CIO, 360 ONE Asset; Ashish Mehrotra, MD, Northern Arc Capital; and Rakshat Kapoor, CIO, Motilal Oswal Alternates, will examine the trade-off between yield, downside protection and risk as private credit gains prominence in a session on Structured Debt.

How family offices think about wealth

There is another way to think about investing: not in months or even years, but across generations.

That is the world family offices operate in. Returns matter, but so do liquidity, diversification, capital preservation and succession.

A panel featuring Abhimanyu Sofat (CIO, Dempo Group), Benaifer Malandkar (CIO, RAAY-Patni Family Office), Nikhil Chandak (CIO, Shanghvi Family Office), Vishal Gupta (Partner, Jeejeebhoy Family Office), Anuj Kapoor (MD, JM Financial) and Rakesh Sony (Group Corporate Director, TOI Group) will bring that multi-generational perspective to the summit.

As portfolios become more complex, making sense of information becomes equally important. Anant Agarwal (Head, Growth & Partnerships, Mprofit) will explore how raw financial data can evolve into useful wealth intelligence.

More ways to invest

Indian investors also have access to avenues that barely featured in wealth conversations a few years ago.

Prithipal Singh, Head of Business Development at Aequitas, will explore GIFT City and the possibilities emerging around cross-border wealth management in an engaging masterclass.

More choice, however, raises another question: how much belongs where?

Anand Vardarajan, MD, Tata AMC, will decode portfolio construction across conviction bets, index funds and emerging strategies in a fireside session.

Radhika Gupta, MD, Edelweiss MF, will turn to SIFs and the space they could occupy between traditional mutual funds and alternative investments.

Big buzz around AI

Then there is AI. Investors are not only asking which AI companies to invest in. They are also asking whether AI itself can make them better investors.

Sandeep Tandon (Founder, Quant Group) will examine the changing balance between machines and human judgement, while Atul Suri, Dhiraj Relli, Ravi Dharamshi and Sonam Srivastava will take the discussion into portfolio management.

The summit closes with Karan Bhagat (Founder, 360 ONE) and India’s Next Wealth Playbook.

It brings the day back to what investors ultimately care about. Markets will change, products will evolve and the next opportunity may look very different from the last. The harder task is building a portfolio capable of evolving with them.
