Education scrips end mixed on BSE over Budget proposals

The Budget has raised allocation for the education sector by 24 per cent from the current year to Rs 52,057 crore for 2011-12.

MUMBAI: Scrips of education related firms ended mixed on the Bombay Stock Exchange today, showing a lukewarm response to the Budget 2011-12 proposals for the sector, including Rs 52,000 crore allocation -- an increase of 24 per cent.

Analysts said the hike was a good step but the sector needs greater allocation.

Edserv Software stock was up 0.29 per cent, touching the day's high of Rs 138.45, while Aptech rose to Rs 98.8, up 0.61 per cent.

However, Educomp Solutions fell 5.59 per cent to Rs467.60 and NIIT was down 1.99 per cent at Rs 49.25 on the BSE.

Marketment said that although the overall Government expenditure on education had grown over the years, it was not enough.

The Budget has raised allocation for the education sector by 24 per cent from the current year to Rs 52,057 crore for 2011-12.
