Demat accounts surge to 16.2 crore, 42 lakh new accounts added in June: Motilal Oswal

Additionally, the number of active users on NSE increased to 4.42 crore in June 2024 from 3.09 crore in June 2023 whereas the overall average daily turnover (ADTO) increased 15% MoM to Rs 499 lakh crore according to a report by domestic brokerage firm Motilal Oswal.
In the overall ADTO contribution, the F&O ADTO rose 15% while the cash ADTO witnessed an increase of 37.5% MoM. Retail cash ADTO rose 33% MoM to Rs 64,600 crore.
NSE active users
The number of active clients on NSE increased 3.1% MoM to 4.42 crore in June 2024, wherein the top five discount brokers account for 64.4% of total NSE active clients vs. 58.2% in June 2022.
Angel One and Upstox currently stand with a market share of 15.2% and 6% respectively.
Among the key traditional brokers, ICICI Sec reported a 0.8% MoM increase in its client count to 19 lakh, with a 10 bps drop in market share to 4.3% and IIFL Securities reported a 0.6% MoM increase in its client count to 4 lakh, with a 5 bps dip in market share to 1%.
Overall ADTO increased
Overall, the ADTO increased 2.7% MoM to Rs 1.8 lakh crore wherein the options ADTO increased 3.9% MoM and futures ADTO declined by 3.8% MoM.
Futures ADTO declined 3.8% MoM, led by a decline in Gold ADTO (24% MoM). However, silver ADTO and natural gas ADTO increased by 12% and 6% respectively MoM.
