This means today is the last day to buy the shares of these companies to be eligible for the dividends declared by them as the shareholders who appear in the company’s books as of the record date receive the dividends.
Those buying the stock on the ex-date are not eligible for dividends and after the implementation of the T+1 framework, the record date and ex-date are the same in most cases unless there is a market holiday after the ex-date.
Hence, the shareholders who buy the stock at least one day before the ex-date are eligible for dividends as settlement happens the next day.
Colgate-Palmolive (India)
Earlier in the last week, the board of Colgate-Palmolive (India) announced their first interim dividend of Rs 24 per share, fixing November 4 as the record date for the purpose of determining the eligible shareholders.
The company additionally informed that the payment of the same will take place from November 21 onwards.
In the past 12 months, Colgate-Palmolive (India) has declared equity dividends amounting to Rs 58 per share and at a price of Rs 3,118 per share, the company's dividend yield is 1.86%.

Patanjali Foods announced an interim dividend of Rs 8 per share.
