Cipla surges on Tamiflu demand
Shares of Cipla were in the limelight Monday on expectations that Cipla’s drug used to treat the pandemic swine flu will be in demand across the world.
Since Cipla manufactures Tamiflu, a drug used to treat Swine Flu, it gives the company a good opportunity in the export market. The company can supply 1.5 m doses of Tamiflu as soon as needed, the company said.
Asian health officials went on alert and urged the public to be vigilant Sunday amid the threat of a flu strain that has killed up to 81 people in Mexico and sparked warnings of a potential pandemic.
Governments across the region, which has in recent years been at the forefront of the SARS and bird flu epidemics, urged the public, and especially travellers, to be on guard for symptoms of the new multi-strain of swine fever.
Shares of Cipla were up nearly 3 per cent at Rs 246.10 after rising as much as Rs 255.50 in early trade.
