Mumbai: Irdai has said insurers cannot reject motor claims on the grounds that the vehicle does not have a valid PUC (pollution under control) certificate. A statement has been issued by the insurance regulator to this effect on Wednesday.

In July 2018, following a Supreme Court order, Irdai had conveyed to insurance companies that they must ensure that any vehicle they cover must have a valid PUC certificate at the time of the policy.

“However, there are some misleading reports to the effect that if there is no valid PUC certificate at the time of the accident, claim under the motor insurance policy is not payable,” the regulator said.
