Mumbai: Mumbai's municipal corporation is planning to issue a defamation notice to Singapore-based fund manager Samir Arora as the civic body received flak on social media following a recent incident when he fell into a open manhole, said a senior official.

Arora fell into a manhole outside Phoenix Mills office in Mahalakshmi on April 25. It emerged that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was not responsible for the manhole as it is part of Shree Laxmi Woolen Mills Estate Society.

The fund manager declined to comment further on the incident when contacted by ET.

Sharing a link to a news report on BMC looking to sue Arora, the fund manager quipped on twitter on Friday,"This is to put on record that BMC is the best municipal corporation in the world. We are all very proud of BMC. I hope all Mumbaikars will join me in applauding the services delivered by this very great organization."

Arora's ordeal was first shared by his friend Neeraj Batra on twitter on April 26. Arora had described the incident which took place a day before, as 'scary and smelly'. Later that day, he took a swipe at BMC in a tweet saying, "If BMC finds my Samsung phone in the drain they can keep it with my compliments."
