BHEL soars over 7 pc; Tata Motors slips on BSE

With the benchmark Sensex snapping its losing streak, jumping about two per cent today, shares of state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and cement maker Ambuja Cement soared over seven per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

MUMBAI: With the benchmark Sensex snapping its losing streak, jumping about two per cent today, shares of state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and cement maker Ambuja Cement soared over seven per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

However, stocks of auto major Tata Motors and Anil Ambani-led Reliance Industries ended in the negative territory, shedding over one per cent during the day's trade.

BHEL skyrocketed 7.19 per cent to close at Rs 1,481.45. The scrip had touched an intra-day high of Rs 1,509 and more than seven lakh shares of the company changed hands.

Shares of Ambuja Cement shot up 7.17 per cent to end the day at Rs 88.20 after reaching an intra-day high of Rs 89.40.

Realty giant DLF surged 6.53 per cent to Rs 511.20. The scrip had touched an intra-day high of Rs 522.90 and nearly 32 lakh shares were traded on the bourse.

Further, the 14-share realty index shot up 173.05 points or 3.07 per cent to close at 5,803.66 points.

Stocks of leading private sector lender HDFC Bank and Housing Development Finance Corporation gained more than four per cent on the BSE. While HDFC Bank closed at Rs 1,184.55, rising 4.74 per cent, the scrip of HDFC ended the day at Rs 2,187.05, increasing 4.10 per cent on the exchange.

Country's most valued firm Reliance Industries and telecom major Bharti Airtel also ended in the positive territory.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors declined 1.42 per cent to Rs 505.60 after reaching an intra-day low of Rs 500. The scrip of Rcom fell 1.41 per cent to close at Rs 543.05.

Aditya Birla Group firm Grasim Industries also ended in the negative region, shedding 1.13 per cent to end the day at Rs 2,192.05.
