Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular hold on to gains after TDSAT verdict on 3G roaming

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular held on to their gains of over 3 percent on Tuesday after the Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal reported a split verdict on the 3G roaming case.

The Bharti Airtel stock ended the day at Rs 319.50, up 3.11 percent on the Bombay Stock Exchange. It touched an intraday high of Rs 322.55 and a low of Rs 311.90 today.

The Idea Cellular stock closed at Rs 81.90, up 5.41 percent. It touched an intraday high of Rs 82.25 and a low of Rs 77 today.

Telecom tribunal TDSAT today gave a split verdict on the 3G intra-circle roaming case with its Chairman allowing operators' plea against the government order to stop the service, while its member dismissed it. The two-member bench comprised Chairman Justice S B Sinha and Member P K Rastogi.

“The tribunal said both sides can appeal at a higher court, according to one lawyer on the case, after one judge voted in favour of the government and the other in favour of the mobile phone operators,” Reuters reported.
