NEW DELHI: Shares of Axis Bank gained over 1 per cent in Tuesday's trade on the joining of the new managing director & CEO of the company.

The scrip gained 1.48 per cent to hit a high of Rs 629 on BSE.

Shikha Sharma, the former managing director & CEO of Axis Bank retired from the services of the bank with effect from Monday. Amitabh Chaudhry, who replaced her will remain in office till December 31, 2021.


Chaudhry, was the managing director of HDFC Standard Life. Chaudhry was with the life insurer since January 2010 and is widely credited for the insurance company's successful IPO earlier this year.

He also worked for Infosys BPO between 2003 and 2006. He is a B Tech in (Electronic & Electricals) from the Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani and is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
