Augmont Enterprises shares rose after the company and its subsidiaries were empanelled by NSE.
The partnership aims to simplify the creation and extinguishment of EGRs and encourage greater trading participation in the product, thereby strengthening India’s formal gold market ecosystem.
Under the arrangement, Augmont will leverage its experience across the gold value chain to support the development of the EGR framework. The company will also provide technical and on-ground support to facilitate the seamless conversion of physical gold into EGRs and the redemption of EGRs back into physical gold within the regulated ecosystem.
EGRs are dematerialised securities representing ownership of physical gold stored securely in SEBI-accredited vaults and held electronically through depositories. Each EGR is backed by physical gold and can be traded on the exchange, enabling gold to be integrated into the formal financial system.
According to NSE, the partnership is expected to support a more transparent and robust ecosystem for gold trading, potentially facilitating efficient price discovery and wider participation among jewellers, refiners, traders and institutional investors.
Sriram Krishnan, Chief Business Development Officer, NSE, said the empanelment of Augmont marks an important step towards building a deeper ecosystem for EGRs. He added that combining NSE’s technology and market infrastructure with Augmont’s presence across the gold value chain could simplify the creation and extinguishment of EGRs and support greater participation.
Ketan Kothari, Whole-Time Director, Augmont Enterprises, said the company aims to make the conversion between physical and electronic gold simpler, faster and more transparent for trade participants and investors by combining its gold-related expertise with NSE’s technology and market infrastructure.
