Alpha Alternatives raises over Rs 6,000 crore for first infrastructure fund

Alpha Alternatives has raised more than ₹6,000 crore at the final close of its first infrastructure fund, said people aware of the development. The Build India Infrastructure Fund will invest in roads, power transmission and renewable energy assets, with a focus on hybrid annuity model road projects and transmission infrastructure.

Its investment strategy is expected to span the infrastructure space, targeting assets with potential for operational improvements, structured investment approaches and eventual monetisation through infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs), one of the people said.

Alpha Alternatives has a listed InvIT, Anantam Highways Trust, which provides it with an existing platform in the infrastructure investment space.


The fund attracted commitments from a mix of institutional investors, family offices, and wealthy individuals, the people said. The average commitment is estimated at ₹25-30 crore.

Domestic institutional investors, family offices and wealthy individuals are increasingly looking at infrastructure as an alternative investment class, seeking exposure to long-term assets linked to the country's economic growth.

Earlier this week, Bajaj Alternate Investment Management raised around ₹950 crore for its first real estate fund and is looking to reach its ₹2,000-crore target with additional funding.

The fund will focus on developing premium commercial office properties through partnerships with established developers, tapping demand from global capability centres and large corporate occupiers in India.
