Welspun India Q4 net loss at Rs 156.34 crore

Diversified business firm Welspun India today reported a standalone net loss of Rs 156.34 crore in the quarter ended March 31, 2011.

NEW DELHI: Diversified business firm Welspun India today reported a standalone net loss of Rs 156.34 crore in the quarter ended March 31, 2011.

The company had a net profit of Rs 19.32 crore in the quarter ended March 31, 2010, Welspun India said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

During the quarter, the company, which is engaged in textiles, infrastructure and energy, said it had a net tax expense of Rs 167.70 crore and also had a foreign exchange loss of Rs 48.12 lakh.

The firm's standalone net sales during the period stood at Rs 467.29 crore, a marginal increase by 2 per cent from Rs 457.86 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter previous fiscal.

For the year-ended March 31, 2011, Welspun India's standalone net loss stood at Rs 99.78 crore while it had a net profit of Rs 115 crore in the year-ago period.

The company said during the fiscal, it "had investments, aggregating Rs 73.91 crore in Welspun AG, and outstanding loans at zero rate of interest aggregating Rs 93.62 crore and other advances aggregating Rs 16.75 lakh due from Welspun AG."

During the year, the firm's standalone net sales increased by 9.1 per cent to Rs 1,990.76 crore from Rs 1,823.54 crore posted in the previous fiscal.

On a consolidated basis, Welspun India's net profit slipped to Rs 1.40 crore during the fiscal from Rs 160.82 crore in the previous fiscal.

During the period the firm's consolidated net sales stood at Rs 2,054.81 crore, up by 6 per cent from Rs 1,937.16 crore posted in the previous fiscal.

Shares of Welspun India closed at Rs 47.55 on the BSE, down by 0.73 per cent from the previous close.
