SAIL posts 16% sales growth in Apr-Dec 2016

KOLKATA: Steel Authority of India Ltd ( SAIL) has posted a 16% sales growth to 9.6 Million Tonne (MT) during April–December 2016 over the corresponding period last year, led by higher domestic sales and exports. Exports in particular jumped to more than double during this period and contributed significantly to the company's improved sales numbers.

SAIL said its exports growth is in keeping pace with a focus to expand its global foot print.

On the production front, SAIL produced 10.18 Million Tonnes of saleable steel during April-December 2016, of which 1.18 MT alone came in December 2016, registering a 15% growth in saleable steel production over Apr-December 2015.

With enhanced performance from the modernised units, the techno-economic parameters also showed improvement during the first nine months of FY17 with Blast Furnace productivity and Coke Rate registering 7% and 3% improvement respectively.
