Rural Electrification Corp Q1 profit up 32 per cent at Rs 877 crore

State-run Rural Electrification Corp today reported 32 per cent jump in profit after tax at Rs 877 crore in the first quarter of 2012-13.

NEW DELHI: State-run Rural Electrification Corp today reported 32 per cent jump in profit after tax at Rs 877 crore in the first quarter of 2012-13.

It had profit after tax of Rs 662 crore in the year-ago period.

Total income of REC climbed to Rs 3,093 crore in the April-June quarter from Rs 2,373 crore in the same period last fiscal.

"The loan asset book as on June 30, 2012, has increased to Rs 1,06,632 crore and the outstanding borrowings was at Rs 89,565 crore," REC said in a statement.

A leading lender to the power sector, REC provides loans to state electricity boards and state governments, among others.
