KEC International: Orders help, but margins hurt its revenue

KEC has reported an order backlog of 9,200 crore as on Dec 31, 2011, which is more than double its consolidated FY11 revenues of 4,500 cr.

KEC International, a key player in the infrastructure engineering, procurement and construction segment, has a diversified presence across verticals such as power transmission, power systems, cables, railways, telecom and water, with power transmission being the largest.

The company is also geographically well diversified with presence in US, South Asia, Africa, Central Asia and Middle East & North Africa. Such a diversified business model has relatively shielded the company from slowdown, as reflected in the number of new orders.

The company has reported an order backlog of 9,200 crore as on December 31, 2011, of which 67.2% is accounted for by power transmission, 22.9% by power systems, about 8.5% by railways, telecom and water businesses and the rest by the cable business.

The current order backlog is more than double the company's consolidated FY11 revenues of 4,500 crore.
