JSW Energy expects to clock FY12 sales of Rs 8,500 cr

The Sajjan Jindal-led power utility will spend Rs 3,000 crore on capital expenditure in the current fiscal and add 1,410 MW of capacity in the year.

MUMBAI: JSW Energy's net profit in the March quarter fell by a quarter because of high fuel prices but the company is upbeat about 2011-12, when new capacity will more than double its revenue to 8,000-8,500 crore, company officials said on Thursday.

The Sajjan Jindal-led power utility will spend 3,000 crore on capital expenditure in the current fiscal and add 1,410 MW of capacity in the year to raise its total power generation capacity to 3,140 MW, company officials said.

"Price of coal has been a cause of concern. Since the end of 2010, this has impacted the earnings for the quarter. We are trying different varieties of imported coal and negotiating long-term contracts to manage the price," LK Gupta, joint managing director and chief executive officer, told reporters at a press meet.

In an attempt to tie up coal for its projects, JSW Energy has acquired 49.8% in Royal Bafokeng Capital that holds 58.47% in South African Coal Mining Holding.
