Gokaldas Exports returned to year-on-year profit growth as tariff pressures eased, with stronger orders in India, rising Africa volumes and productivity gains supporting quarterly performance.
Profits were up 23% sequentially from Rs 36 crore in Q4FY26. The quarter marked the first year-on-year increase in net profit since tariff-related challenges began.
Consolidated total income rose 21% year-on-year to Rs 1,180 crore in Q1FY27 from Rs 977 crore a year earlier and was up 9% sequentially. Growth was driven by higher order execution and realisations in India and increased volumes in Africa, the company said in a press release.
The company's India business grew 16% year-on-year during the quarter, despite a 12% decline in overall Indian apparel exports during the period. Its Africa business grew 45%, helped by higher volumes following the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
"Better order execution in India and higher volume in Africa led to strong income growth in the quarter," said Gokaldas Exports vice chairman & managing director Sivaramakrishnan Ganapathi.
He said the company had moved out of the penal tariff regime and now enjoyed parity with global peers, allowing it to compete on a level playing field for orders.
EBITDA increased 17% year-on-year to Rs 139 crore, while the EBITDA margin stood at 11.8%, compared with 12.1% in Q1FY26. The company said operating leverage and productivity gains were offset by higher wages and other factor costs.
Sequentially, EBITDA increased 3% from Rs 135 crore in Q4FY26.
The company said productivity initiatives and a strong order book should support growth and margins in the coming quarters.
Gokaldas Exports manufactures and exports apparel to more than 50 countries. It operates about 30 production units with annual garment production capacity of about 92 million pieces.
