Bengaluru: Britannia Industries on Monday posted a 74% increase in net profit to Rs 492.58 crore for the second-quarter ended September, driven by premium products and cost efficiency programme.

The maker of Good Day and Tiger biscuits reported a 10.28% increase in revenue to Rs 3026.29 crore.

“On the cost front, we witnessed moderate inflation in the prices of key raw materials for the bakery business while there was an inordinate increase in milk prices which impacted our dairy business. We accelerated the drive on cost efficiencies and leveraged fixed costs which helped us improve the shape of our business and deliver high operating profits in the quarter,” said managing director Varun Berry.

The company said it continued to invest in category innovation during the phase of sluggish demand in belief that the government’s recent measures will kick start the economy and boost consumer demand, moving forward. Britannia plans to scale up its salted snacks segment in the West and croissant business in East and South.
