Bata India Ltd posted 58.2% growth in net profit in Q2

India’s largest footwear manufacturer and retailer, Bata India Ltd posted 58.2% growth in net profit for the second quarter.

KOLKATA: India’s largest footwear manufacturer and retailer, Bata India Ltd posted 58.2% growth in net profit for the second quarter ended June 30 at Rs 40.98 crore on a 22.6% rise in net sales at Rs 429.36 crore.

Bata India managing director Marcelo Villagran said the increased profitability is the result of improved sales and margin from the shoe line and growth of both retail and non-retail businesses through rapid expansion, higher response to collections, expenditure control, better customer service and growth in customer base.

Bata India continued its strategy of expanding its retail stores and has opened 68 new Bata stores till June. These new Bata stores are based on the new large-format concept of more than 3,000 sq ft in size which the company has recently started in India. It also unveiled five exclusive Hush Puppies stores and 4 shop-in-shops during the quarter.

The company’s focus on improvements in shoe designs gained pace in the second quarter. Bata introduced new technologies in the men dress category like anti-skid and comfit gel, and a genuine leather casual collection for men under Bata and North Star brands.
