Rupee hits three-month high against US dollar, surges 76 paise to 70.69
NEW DELHI: Extending its winning streak to a seventh session, the rupee on Thursday settled at its highest level against the US dollar since August 29.

The local currency closed 76 paise up at 70.70 against the greenback following selling in greenback by exporters and softening crude oil prices.

The rupee opened 32 paise up at 71.14 against the US dollar against the previous close of 71.46 hit on Tuesday.

Financial markets will remain closed on Friday on account public holiday.

On the other hand, domestic equity markets extended their losses for a third straight session amid uncertainty due to the ongoing state elections.

The 30-share BSE Sensex dipped close to 800 points in the past three trading sessions.
