Rupee weakens by 2 paise against dollar in early trade

The rupee today weakened by 2 paise to 46.86 a dollar in early trade following month-end dollar demand from importers

MUMBAI: The rupee today weakened by 2 paise to 46.86 a dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market following month-end dollar demand from importers.

However, dollar's losses against other major Asian currencies overseas limited losses.

The rupee had ended higher by 6 paise at 46.84/85 a dollar yesterday.

Dealers said month-end demand for dollar from importers mainly kept pressure on the rupee.

However dollar's weakness against other currencies limited the losses, they added.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index, Sensex, rose 65.53 points, or 0.36 per cent, to 18,160.82 points in opening trade.
